Relief Applications ( is a European-based organization serving the international humanitarian and development sectors. Founded in 2014, Relief Apps is the result of the encounter of an IT expert and an experienced humanitarian during the Red Cross response to the Haiyan (Yolanda) typhoon in the Philippines. The pair realized that technologies almost always exist in the field, providing many opportunities in data management, and still are almost never used.

The organization provides a variety of services bridging humanitarian work and cutting-edge technology to provide innovative solutions for humanitarian organizations and disseminating new IT tools, even simple ones, to significantly improve the efficiency of an organisation, and by doing so increase its impact.

Type of projects

Relief Applications developed a platform ( to help manage Emergency response rosters (ex. Need to deploy staff and volunteers after an earthquake). We also develop customized apps, web platforms, and monitoring and evaluation tools for clients such as the United Nations, INGOs, the French Red Cross or the Start Network.

The Internship

The Communications Intern will work in these main areas: social media, research and proposal writing and event organisation. This is a challenging opportunity for an enthusiastic student to contribute to the growth of a highly active company dealing with humanitarian organisations and the UN, while gaining hands on experience in nonprofit management.

  • Assist in developing and implementing social media strategies aimed at increasing Relief Apps visibility
  • Research grants /funding opportunities and help draft proposals
  • Draft basic public relations materials including, newsletters, news on app releases, and other materials as directed
  • Perform market analysis and research on competition
  • Support the team in daily administrative tasks
  • Help organize events
  • Be actively enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a university public relations, marketing, business or other related program;
  • Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communications skills; demonstrate ability to undertake public relations writing assignments;
  • Knowledge of the humanitarian world would be best;
  • Capacity to translate tech explanations into marketing presentations.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office with skills in design

Relief Applications offers a minimum of 554 €/month, reimbursement of transport costs, and a financial help for rent. We ideally need someone for 6 months, starting in January 2018. Due to the nature of this position, only candidates legally eligible to work in the EU may apply.
